William Bazeyo, At a Glance

While working as a general practitioner, William Bazeyo realized the need for specialized medicine and decided to pursue a career in the area. Dr. Bazeyo has dedicated more than 20 years of service to the field and has achieved great success in that time. He played an integral role in The HEALTH Alliance (Higher Education Alliance for Leadership Training for Health) which was formed in 2005 and brought together seven schools of public health in six countries. Dr. Bazeyo also addresses leadership gaps in health, organizes various summits, and acts as the principal investigator of various projects. Additionally, he serves as the director of the newly established Centre for Tobacco Control in Africa, which is mandated to support governments to build and sustain institutional capacity for tobacco control in Africa.

Aside from his work at the university, Dr. Bazeyo lends his knowledge and talents to the ResilientAfrica Net work (RAN) where he serves as the chief of party. The RAN brings together 20 universities in 16 African countries, and has established labs in four regions. Its mission is to strengthen the resilience of communities through innovative technologies and approaches, and assist communities through education.

Dr. Bazeyo earned an MBCHB at Makerere University and M.Med in occupational health at the University of Singapore. To keep abreast of changes in his field, he is affiliated with the CTCA where he is the center director, and One Health Central and Eastern Africa where he is the chair of dean of schools.
